Charlie Pearce was born in Cambridgeshire, England before shortly moving to live in Lincolnshire, England where he went to school. After leaving high school he studied at the University of Sheffield and in 2016 graduated with Master of Chemistry. During his time at the University of Sheffield he carried out a research project with Prof. Steve Armes and Dr. Nicholas Warren on the cleavage of RAFT end groups from poly(GMA-b-HPMA) diblock copolymers to improve their biocompatibility.

In his Masters year he undertook 6 months of research, under the supervision of Dr. Sebastian Spain, in the field of oxidation responsive polymers for targeted drug delivery aimed at tackling inflammatory disease. Research interests are centered in novel, smart materials for use in the improvement of human health.

In 2016 he joined the Prof. Marina Resmini research group at the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences - Queen Mary University of London to start a PhD. Here he is researching into first generation point of care devices for the therapeutic monitoring of anticancer drugs.
